What is the West Virginia Farm Crawl?

The West Virginia Statewide Farm Crawl is a new and exciting month-long event aimed at showcasing the best of our state's agriculture. Every weekend in July, different farms across West Virginia will open their gates to visitors, offering unique Experiences, tours, and a chance to purchase fresh, local products.

Wander through rows of vibrant blooms at this U-pick flower farm, open every weekend in July (closed July 13 for a private event). Don’t miss the Bloom Bash on July 26 from 4–8 PM, an evening among the flowers featuring local vendors, live music, and of course, flower picking!

Potomac Highlands (Eastern Panhandle and Southeastern Mountains)

Visitors can interact with farm animals, including ponies, a miniature donkey, goats, and chickens. Beekeeping demonstrations will be held with equipment displays and free activity books and guides. Beef and pork will be available for purchase. Rock Oak Farm will also be on-site with goat milk and bee products for sale.

Great Escape Farms provides presentations and a self-guided walking tour exploring their permaculture-based sustainable agriculture systems and perennial food-producing crops. You can explore swales, food forests, rainwater harvesting, plant propagation and so much more. Self-guided Walking Tour: You can meander around the landscape and explore the many sustainable and regenerative practices we have implemented on the property. To assist with the tours we have many poster boards situated throughout the landscape explaining various concepts. Presentations: We will have several presentations throughout the day including; Introduction to Food Forests, Unusual Perennial Plants, Regenerative Landscape Design, and Rainwater Harvesting Overview. Animal Encounters: Meet our flock of laying chickens and explore how we use brooders, chicken tractors, coop and run, and free range. We also have a flock of guinea fowl that you will hear long before you see them. Products for sale: We will have a large variety of food bearing perennial trees, shrubs, and herbaceous perennial plants for sale. We are a fully licensed and inspected nursery. We will also be selling enrollment into our more detailed farm tours and our homesteading classes. Schedule: Open 10 – 4 • 11AM Introduction to Food Forests • 12PM Unusual Perennial Plants • 2PM Regenerative Landscape Design • 3PM Rainwater Harvesting Overview Facilities: Restrooms and a picnic table are available for guests. Special Notes: Suitable for families and kids of all ages. Mostly handicap accessible – most of the grounds are mildly sloped and only a few areas have steps but do have alternate paths. Ideal for those interested in sustainable and regenerative agriculture and animal care.

Participants can participate in a tour of the cut flower and sunflower field. We will have flowers already pre-cut for a Make Your Own Bouquet Station/ Bar (Fee associated) and then also have a "Pick Your Own" cut flowers option ( Fee Associated). We will also have Complimentary children's Sunflower activity and Make your own Flower Crown /Bracelet Activity. In addition to the cut flowers, we will also have our fresh vegetables available for purchase from our vegetable field. We will have free drawings for participants for free Vegetable/Cut flower Bundles and complimentary photo opportunities available that relate to pick your own vegetables through a Mini Vegetable Harvest option. The two complimentary photo opportunities include one using our flower field as a Bloom and Snap Cut Flower Photo Opportunity as well as a Capture a Farm Fresh Harvest Moment.
